What should I do ahead of a hurricane, major storm, or evacuation?
Ahead of a hurricane or evacuation, the priority is risk reduction: identify the highest-value or most vulnerable works first; move artworks away from exterior walls and windows; elevate anything at floor level; and avoid storing works in garages or other non-air-conditioned spaces. Where relocation is possible, a climate-stable environment is preferable. Where it is not, a conservator can advise on interim protective measures and a practical triage plan.
