In 2019, The Ringling was awarded the Conserving Canvas grant from The Getty Foundation to support the cost of treatment of the 1886 painting “Emperor Justinian” by Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant (French, 1845-1902). The grant also supported training residencies for several emerging and mid-career painting conservators to work on the project. Conservation began in July 2019 at ArtCare Miami, one of the premier art conservation centers in the country.
